Today the DOJ and DOT have given the green light to American Airlines and US Airways to merge after both carriers agreed to sell/surrender slots at DCA, MIA, ORD, LAX, LGA, BOS, DFW. These slots will go to other airlines to stimulate competition for consumers:
My personal last flight with American was about 4 years ago FLL-ORD-FLL (both on a 737-800), and my last flights with US Airways/US Airways Express were to MEM via CLT, and MCI. I have flown US Airways mainline transcon and it is par with the likes of AA and UA.
